Jivamukti is the favorite yoga movement of many famous Americans and was founded in 1984 in New York, by Sharon Gannon and David Life. Together they have played an important role in bringing Yoga to the attention and making it accessible to a wider audience. The classes are physically demanding and have many (deeper) layers because in each class the five Jivamukti Yoga pillars are discussed, namely; the indian (yoga) scriptures, spiritual devotion, music, meditation and non-violence.
Thrive offers several Jivamukti Yoga classes classes each week, including the main ones: 'Spiritual Warrior' and 'Open Class' taught by certified Jivamukti teachers, all personally trained by Sharon and David (Marco Rodie, Krishna Borgers, Lilian van Dam). In addition, Thrive follows the monthly philosophical focus of Jivamukti Yoga ( Focus of the Month) in all its yoga classes.
The Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior is a well-balanced Vinyasa yoga class consisting of a series of thirty-five postures that flow into each other. This 'get-in-shape' class takes just sixty minutes and is perfect if you have limited time but still want to build a yoga routine. After just a few classes you will be able to master the sequence and focus on improving the postures and exploring the deeper layers of the practice. This energetic class transforms and energises. We conclude with a short meditation and relaxation. Intermediates and beginners with a sense of adventure are welcome!
The 'open class' is intended for all levels of yoga practitioners who have some yoga experience and are familiar with the Vinyasa form of yoga. The teacher will give options for beginners, intermediate and advanced students and give hands on assistance. Each open class will be based on the 5 'pillars' of Jivamukit Yoga; scripture, devotion, kindness, music and meditation and on the so-called '14 points of Jivamukti' (including specific asanas).
Jivamukti teachers from all over the world regularly travel to teach in other countries class . So at Thrive, you can expect to see Jivamukti classes from teachers 'passing through' Amsterdam. For example, in recent years, Jules Febre, Yogeswari, Moritz Ulrich, Karo Tak and Karina Arinak have been our guests with inspiring workshops!
